Food in The Division: Buffs and Effects

Food in The Division allows to make your character stronger with temporary buffs or neutralize debuffs and protect character for short period of time. It’s very useful for both PvP and PvE. But you need in not only for combat purposes. Sometimes you will need it for side missions. For example you may meet a poor citizen who asks you to give him some water. If you have water you may give it to him and receive experience for this.

Where to find Food?

You can find food in different places on the map. Just explore territory, open crates and look around. Visit houses and search there. You will find many items that can be consumed.

Don’t forget to open Restock Crate when you visit your Base of Operations! The crate contains ammo and other consumables that you can take for free.

Here is a list of the food you can find and use in The Division:

  • Canned Food – applies 30 seconds buff that increase all incoming healing by 40%! It’s a great buff to use when your health is low and you need to recover it as fast as possible. You can eat Canned Food before healing yourself with skills or medkits, or before your ally heals you.
  • Energy Bar – instantly removes all negative Status Effects on the player and protects the player from all statue effects for 5 seconds. This type of food removes all negative debuffs. For example you can use this consumable when you are burning. It will remove burning DoT and protect you from other debuffs for 5 seconds. Energy Bar is the reason why using Fragmentations Grenades against other players in PvP is usually better than using Incendiary Grenades. Fragmentation grenades deal instant damage while Incendiary Grenades deal less instant damage and apply burning DoT, which can be neutralized…
  • Water – makes your character stronger against elite enemies, increasing damage by 20% for 30 seconds. This food is useless in PvP but is great for PvE. If you eat it before fighting with tough boss your damage will be enlarged.
  • Soda – all your skills will have reduced cooldowns by 30% for 30 seconds. This food is one of the most useful for bursting. It’s great for both PvE and PvP especially for healers. It allows to use skills more often which can sometimes save your life.

As you see the most important types of food for PvP are Canned Food, Energy Bar and Soda. Always pay attention to how many of these consumable items you have in your inventory. It’s recommended to have full pockets of the consumables before you enter Dark Zone.

Is there a food for recovering health? No, there is not dedicated food for this. But you can use Medkits. They also belong to consumables, so you may consider them as food for healing.

Is it possible to enlarge inventory space to carry more food? Yes, it’s possible to increase inventory space to carry more items. When you start playing you have low level gear and backpack. But later on you can find better backpack and gear with more pockets. The game also has system of perks which increase space for some types of consumables.
